A while back, on facebook, I did some 5-minute practice speed-etchings of people who sent me a picture. I noticed one floating around recently, still used as a profile image. I'm really glad to see the quick work being enjoyed, but I think Joe Gleason deserves a better one and not a rushed effort. Here's an upgraded etch for Joe!

Times Square Finished

After half a year and probably four to five attempts, Times Square is finally complete. I can't guess how many hours I spent on this one.

I've been working on times square for half a year. I had to erase my first version after posting an earlier work in progress because I needed an etch and didn't have access to any others, so it was erased. I tried a second time and the spacing isn't right, I still have it, but I started again. I wasn't ever happy with how it was turning out, so I shook it and started again. Been practicing portrait work. This is my artist friend Allison, painting just outside the frame. This sketch was done on an old full-sized green Etch-a-Sketch. The older units are a lot less precise and this one's lines would fade if you didn't retrace everything.
