The Toy Chest in Ridgefield, CT

Sketched this for Ann, the owner of this small toy shop in downtown Ridgefield, Connecticut. It's an old fashioned place in an old fashioned part of town, which I think makes for a nice etch. Happy Holidays! Thanks for checking out my Etch A Sketch art! Visit again soon for something new or check out my other pages online for things that might not appear here...

Facebook Follower Upgraded Etch

A while back, on facebook, I did some 5-minute practice speed-etchings of people who sent me a picture. I noticed one floating around recently, still used as a profile image. I'm really glad to see the quick work being enjoyed, but I think Joe Gleason deserves a better one and not a rushed effort. Here's an upgraded etch for Joe!

If you want to maybe get etched sometime, follow me on facebook.

Times Square (work in progress)

I've been working on times square for half a year. I had to erase my first version after posting an earlier work in progress because I needed an etch and didn't have access to any others, so it was erased. I tried a second time and the spacing isn't right, I still have it, but I started again. I wasn't ever happy with how it was turning out, so I shook it and started again. This here is my forth attempt over the better part of the last year. Hope to finish soon... Thanks for checking out my Etch A Sketch art! A couple Wilburys, George Harrison and Roy Orbison

George Harrison

I bought the Martin Scorsese documentary dvd about George Harrison, which was fantastic of course, so I thought etching the cover would make for a fun sketch.

Roy Orbison

Roy Orbison is one of my all time favorites. Here he is on top of a copy of his video anthology DVD, which rules. Thanks for checking out my Etch A Sketch art! Visit again soon for something new or check out my other pages online for things that might not appear here...

Lana Del Rey

"Born To Die" cover art portrait sketch. I like the album, really good for a while. Not every track is great but some definitely are. Nice to listen to on occasion..

Emily Haines of Metric

I got the new Metric album the other day and got the idea to sketch Emily Haines because Metric has a lot of awesome songs. The etch came out all right, but I know I could do better if I tried again... (sad emoticon)

Candy Art Portrait (Thom Yorke, of Radiohead)

2000 M&M's, Skittles and Almond Joy Pieces painstakingly placed to create a mosaic of Radiohead frontman, Thom Yorke. This is a project I've wanted to try for a long time and it's way more difficult than expected. I thought it would create itself but it didn't. This Thom Yorke art is dedicated to my Radiohead loving friend, Rick. Thanks for checking out my art! Facebook Etch #52: Allison

Been practicing portrait work. This is my artist friend Allison, painting just outside the frame. This sketch was done on an old full-sized green Etch-a-Sketch. The older units are a lot less precise and this one's lines would fade if you didn't retrace everything.

Facebook Etch: Kerry

This is a sketch of my little sister Kerry, who is probably the best sister I could think of and would definitely be my first pick for sister if there were ever some kind of re-do.

Love you, Kerr!

Mitt Romney etch-a-sketched, with time-lapse

Yesterday I got a request to visit the News Corp. building in NYC to do a rendering of Republican presidential candidate, Mitt Romney for "The Daily", which is the iPad's largest news source. Never one to turn down a media request, I hopped on the train and made my way into midtown. The pressure was high, as there's always the chance a likeness just can't be captured. I had one crack at it with a 1-2hr time frame. No erasing. My faith in my ability was high and the last thing I wanted to do was disappoint, so I gave it all I had and scratched out this etching of the Etch-a-Sketch candidate. I'm happy with the results. With more time and chances I could have improved on this, but for a one-shot, full-sized sketch, this works for me. Thanks to The Daily for the opportunity, it was great fun.

Works in progress

I'm working on a few full-sized city sketches right now. The first one is my second attempt at San Francisco. I had nearly ruined the first one late in the process, so instead of fix it, I went and started it all over again. Thankfully I managed to save the original, so this second attempt isn't completely necessary, but it's never a bad thing to have too many cityscape etches. I'm FLYING through this one, much faster than I went on the first attempt, so the overall quality likely won't be as high, but I'm still confident it will rock faces.

The second sketch I'm working on here is an extremely rough version of Times Square, New York. I'll likely do a more serious version of this one after completion (like my San Fran etches but in reverse) but I'm kind of in a quantity over quality mode right now because I'm confident that no matter what I do, it will still come out good. Hopefully I'll have one of these two etches finished sometime soon!
