Facebook Etch: Kerry

This is a sketch of my little sister Kerry, who is probably the best sister I could think of and would definitely be my first pick for sister if there were ever some kind of re-do.

Love you, Kerr!

Mitt Romney etch-a-sketched, with time-lapse

Yesterday I got a request to visit the News Corp. building in NYC to do a rendering of Republican presidential candidate, Mitt Romney for "The Daily", which is the iPad's largest news source. Never one to turn down a media request, I hopped on the train and made my way into midtown. The pressure was high, as there's always the chance a likeness just can't be captured. I had one crack at it with a 1-2hr time frame. No erasing. My faith in my ability was high and the last thing I wanted to do was disappoint, so I gave it all I had and scratched out this etching of the Etch-a-Sketch candidate. I'm happy with the results. With more time and chances I could have improved on this, but for a one-shot, full-sized sketch, this works for me. Thanks to The Daily for the opportunity, it was great fun.

Works in progress

I'm working on a few full-sized city sketches right now. The first one is my second attempt at San Francisco. I had nearly ruined the first one late in the process, so instead of fix it, I went and started it all over again. Thankfully I managed to save the original, so this second attempt isn't completely necessary, but it's never a bad thing to have too many cityscape etches. I'm FLYING through this one, much faster than I went on the first attempt, so the overall quality likely won't be as high, but I'm still confident it will rock faces.

The second sketch I'm working on here is an extremely rough version of Times Square, New York. I'll likely do a more serious version of this one after completion (like my San Fran etches but in reverse) but I'm kind of in a quantity over quality mode right now because I'm confident that no matter what I do, it will still come out good. Hopefully I'll have one of these two etches finished sometime soon!
